- It’s that time of year again. Girl Scouts everywhere are beginning to sell their famous cookies. And while you certainly should support their entrepreneurial ventures, you should also be thinking about how you can take the cookies to the next level. Because nothing makes an already fabulous cookie taste better than an even more fabulous glass of wine. With 12 different flavor profiles to choose from this year, we’re offering up 12 different pairing suggestions.
Next to the holiday season, Girl Scout Cookie season is my favorite time of year. And, thankfully, there are 12 different flavor profiles available now.
So what does a wine lover do with all those cookies staring at her? She invites her girlfriend over, who happens to be an uber wine expert, so they can get to pairing.
Now I am pretty indiscriminating. Good wine and good cookies go together no matter what. But Jessica Norris, wine director at New York City's Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse and one of Wine Enthusiast's Top 40 under 40 Tastemakers, insisted we take it up a notch.
So with cookies and wine in hand, we are pleased to present the ultimateGirl Scout Cookie and Wine Pairings Guide:
Thin Mints® are my all-time favorite Girl Scout cookie. These round, mint-flavored cookies with a chocolate coating scream for a good Brunello and since the 2010's are awesome and just hitting the shelves, we figured why not?

Cat's Tongue cookies accompanied with white wine by Flore Blancpain Filipovic
Flore is an accomplished chef. Here is her latest batch of cookies, perfectly browned around the edges, a touch of orange blossom water. They are Cat's Tongue Cookies, Langues de Chat, Kattentongen, Leguas de Gato, cooked thin, delicately crunchy, not too sweet.
Are they glorious or what!
Flore recommends drinking a fruity, dry white wine with them, a Chardonnay. Yum!

Beer Pairings for Girl Scout Cookies
So, this article just came out and I thought it relevant to post it here. Whoda thunk, but there it is.
Beer Pairings for Girl Scout Cookies

Girl Scouts of the USA will mark the start of Girl Scout Cookie season with an event in New York City on February 7, 2014. To celebrate, we’ve gathered a collection of cookie-and-beer pairings from around the web.
Suggestions from The Beer Chicks include these pairings:
- Caramel DeLites (aka Samoas) with Maui Brewing Co.’s CoCoNut PorTeR
- Tagalongs with Wells & Young’s Brewing Company’s Banana Bread Beer
- Thin Mints with Kiuchi Brewery’s Hitachino Nest Beer Espresso Stout
- Trefoils with North Coast Brewing Co.’s Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout
Central Track’s Melissa Mackaly suggests these pairings:
- Samoas with Founders Brewing Co.’s Dirty Bastard
- Thin Mints with Great Divide Brewing Co.’s Yeti Imperial Stout
- Do-Si-Dos with Founders Brewing Co.’s Imperial Stout
Suggestions from the Brooklyn Brewshop include these pairings:
- Thin Mints with Bootlegger’s Brewery’s Mint Chocolate Porter
- Tagalongs with Brooklyn Brew Shop’s own Peanut Butter Porter
- Dulce de Leches with Revolution Brewing’s Mad Cow Milk Stout
- Lemonades with Brooklyn Brewery’s Sorachi Ace
And finally, Flying Dog Brewery includes the following pairings with its own beers:
- Trefoils with Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout
- Do-Si-Dos with Lucky SOB Irish Red Ale
- Samoas with Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA
- Tagalongs with Gonzo Imperial Porter
- Thin Mints with Kujo Imperial Coffee Stout

A pairing example would be Maui Brewing Co.’s CoCoNut PorTeR and Samoa cookies

Photo credit Appearance: Dark brown to the point of being black with a two fingers worth of tan froth. Description by JamesMN Aroma: Rich dark malts. Taste: Starts with creamy dark malt that gives some bittersweet chocolate and day-old black coffee to the flavor. Hard to detect the toasted coconut but a well rounded flavor none-the-less. The finish is the highlight with a toffee and cream flavor leading to an aftertaste of long lingering coffee bitterness. About where it should be in terms of robustness for 6% ABV. Mouthfeel: Medium in body with average carbonation and good drinkability. Final Thoughts: While I admit myself a bit let down that Maui Brewing Coconut Porter didn't deliver on the 'coconut' part of its name, I am happy to say it did a great job on the 'porter' part. A good example of the American take on the style with big robustness for a moderate ABV. Would I drink it again? Sure. and this |
